Barcola Speaks Out on Form Ahead of Crystal Palace Trip
Bradley Barcola is the man under the spotlight as Liverpool prepare to travel to Selhurst Park to face Crystal Palace this Sunday, with the forward's recent form and positioning both a talking point heading into the game.
Liverpool.com reports that Barcola has been tipped to make a big impact against Palace, with the piece coming after Jamie Carragher was critical of the decision to play him as a striker (Liverpool.com). That debate over his best position has clearly been rumbling on, as a separate Liverpool.com report notes that Andoni Iraola's call to use Barcola up front against Fenerbahce received mixed reviews, though the outlet points out the Liverpool boss is far from the first manager to experiment with him in that role, with Luis Enrique previously having done the same (Liverpool.com).
Amid the tactical debate, Barcola himself has been speaking candidly about his start to life on Merseyside. The Liverpool Echo reports that the Frenchman has opened up about Liverpool's form following his £123m move from Paris Saint-Germain, acknowledging he has come under scrutiny given the size of that transfer fee (Liverpool Echo). This Is Anfield carries similar comments, quoting Barcola as saying fans have "not seen the best of me" (This Is Anfield), suggesting the winger is well aware there is more to come and is keen to turn things around sooner rather than later.
On the Palace side of things, there's a boost for Liverpool ahead of the trip south. Liverpool.com reports that Pierre Sage, Palace's under-fire boss, has confirmed a blow for his side ahead of Sunday's game, effectively denying one of his players a transfer audition against their former suitors (Liverpool.com).
Liverpool's own club channels have been building towards the game too, with LiverpoolFC.com publishing their usual pre-match staples: team news (LiverpoolFC.com), an opposition lowdown on Crystal Palace (LiverpoolFC.com), and a stat pack ahead of kick-off (LiverpoolFC.com), all helping fans get up to speed on what to expect from the clash at Selhurst Park.
With Barcola potentially handed a chance to answer his critics and silence the doubters, all eyes will be on how Slot deploys his attacking options as Liverpool look to continue their push through the Premier League season.
